Tim's Suggested Reading / Book List

For many years, I have been a reader and encourage my audiences to read books that help shape the way they think. Below, I’ve listed some of my favorite books by category and put an * by ones that really made me think or impacted me very positively (which really is all of them at one point or another!). I have also added some commentary in a few cases. Please let me know what you have read that has helped shape your life personally and professionally.

Productivity

  • *Deep Work by Cal Newport (reading this now. GREAT read!)
  • The One Thing by Gary Keller

Leadership / Management

  • *The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey
  • The Anticipatory Organization by Daniel Burrus
  • The One Minute Manager by Ken Blanchard
  • His Excellency: George Washington by Joseph Ellis (I just finished this GREAT book!)

Sales / Marketing

  • *The Greatest Salesman in the World by Og Mandino (helped me turn around my IBM career when I was nearly fired from my first job out of college)
  • Building a Story Brand by Donald Miller
  • The Little Red Book by Jeffrey Gittomer
  • The Psychology of Selling: Increase Your Sales Faster and Easier Than You Ever Thought Possible by Brian Tracy

Effective Speaking / Presentations

  • I See You Naked by Ron Hoff

Health / Wellness

  • *Younger Next Year by Chris Crowley & Henry S. Lodge
  • Margin by Richard A. Swenson, M.D.

Societal (I'll call these brain books as they really make you think!)

  • Atomic Habits by James Clear (the best book of this type I have ever read!)
  • The Magic of Thinking Big by David J. Schwartz (this book changed my life as a young man. I had never written down goals until I read this book.)
  • Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. (The best part of this book is Chapter 8 on forming a mastermind.)

Goal Setting

  • The Shallows: What the Internet is Doing to Our Brains by Nicholas Carr
  • *The Vanishing American Adult by Ben Sasse
  • *The World Outside Your Brain by Mathew Crawford

Here’s an idea to get you started with a mastermind:

Go to your *local BOOKSTORE – that’s right a REAL live bookstore – then read Chapter 8 of Think and Grow Rich – it’s the best part of this book. While you are there, buy one of the books mentioned above to support a local business owner. Trust me, they need your money WAY more than Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos does (Bezos is currently the Richest man in the world.) Disclaimer: I bought Amazon stock in 2000.

If you don’t have time to go to a bookstore or don’t live near one or just want to make Jeff Bezos richer, you can order your book from my Amazon Affiliate link below:
